Adventures in Iowa: KCACTF Region V
January 31, 2018
Recently I took a week long hiatus from school to attend The Region Five Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival! I was honored to represent MSU, Mankato as one of 13 Irene Ryan Nominees. The week started off with a bang on Monday when I was cast as Holly in the 10 Minute Play Head Space by Candace Nelson, and named as a Semi-Finalist in the Irene Ryan competition. That evening I also joined the cast of The Aeneid as a featured scene at that evenings showcase at the Des Moines Civic Center.
The week did not end there! On Wednesday night I was named one of 16 out 315 finalists in the Irene Ryan Competition and we went on to perform at the Hoyt Sherman theatre on Friday night. My partner, Mathew Sather and I were not named as the winner that night BUT I was incredibly honored to receive the "Outstanding Musical Theatre Actor in the Final Round" award!
Many other incredible actors, technicians and designers from MSU had a successful week! I will link the official press release at the end of this blog!
I left KCACTF feeling inspired to keep working hard and fighting the good fight. I had the privilege of meeting so many talented artists who I have no doubt will be changing the world very soon. Theatre is not about the recognition or awards, but about the power of art and the stories we are so fortunate to tell. It is experiences like this past week that remind me how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love and the importance of theatre.
A very very special THANK YOU to my insanely talented and driven partner Matthew Sather for putting up with me and working so hard from day one! I truly could not have asked for a better person to share the experience with! We plan to record our package and have that available very soon to share with everyone!
Please take the time to see just how well the MAV FAM did this past week! How lucky am I to be surrounded by such wonderfully talented and all around awesome people?!
